Influence of bacteria on the response of microalgae to contaminant mixtures ArchiMer
Fouilland, Eric; Gales, Amandine; Beaugelin, Ines; Lanouguere, Elodie; Pringault, Olivier; Leboulanger, Christophe.
When microalgae are exposed to contaminants, the role of associated bacteria within the phycosphere, the microenvironment surrounding algal cells, remains largely unknown. The present study investigated the importance of algae-associated bacteria on the responses of microalgae growth to metallic and organic toxicant exposure. The effects of a polluted sediment elutriate, and of metal or pesticide mixtures at environmentally relevant concentrations (<10 μg L−1) were assessed on the growth of two microalgae strains: Isochrysis galbana, a prymnesiophyte, and Thalassiosira delicatula, a centric diatom. Both cultures were maintained as axenic or bacterized under similar conditions in batch cultures. In axenic conditions, the metal mixture addition at low...

Métabolisme et interactions bactériennes en lien avec la vitamine B12 chez la microalgue haptophyte Tisochrysis lutea ArchiMer
Nef, Charlotte.
Vitamin B12 is an enzymatic cofactor that enables methionine synthesis and whose availability can control phytoplankton development in marine systems. This vitamin is synthesized only by select species of bacteria and archaea. Haptophyte microalgae form a widespread group with major ecological importance. However, little is known about their utilization of vitamin B12 nor their interactions with B12 producers. Our main objectives were to characterize mechanisms of acquisition and utilization of vitamin B12 by Haptophytes and the effect of B12 limitation on their metabolism by considering the model species Tisochrysis lutea. Analysis of the repartition of B12 dependency in haptophytes by molecular approaches suggest that this group would be the first to...

REPAMEP - Réponse des palourdes aux stress environnementaux combinant métaux, efflorescences toxiques et pathogènes - Programme LITEAU. ArchiMer
Baudrimont, M.; Gonzalez, P.; Hegaret, H.; Khayati, Alice; Lassus, Patrick; Legeay, A.; De Montaudouin, Xavier; Raymond, N.; Soudant, P.; Tran, D..
The originality of this project consists in the interdisciplinary approach gathering the impact of toxic phytoplankton blooms and metallic pollution on health (behaviour, stress, immunity, genetic) and disease development of the Manila clam, an economieally important species. The Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum is the second exploited bivalve in the world. It was introduced in Arcachon bay during the 80's and is today exploited by professional fishermen (57 licences). A 50% decrease of the stock was observed during the last five years. Beyond fishing pressure, a PhD thesis identified several diseases as potential threats, like perkinsosis (=Dermo) and brown muscle disease (BMD). The project confirms the settlement of these pathologies with high...
